Tag/Day 2.1 auf der/on ARTEMIS in Zeebrugge, Belgium

Ausnahmsweise sind wir mal sonntags um 06:00 Uhr aufgestanden. Bruno hat noch eine Tasse Kaffee zu sich genommen. Ich wollte erst auf dem Schiff frühstücken und damit habe ich gegen Gesetz Nr. 1 der belgischen Gastfreundschaft verstoßen. Aber ungelogen: um 07:00 Uhr morgens bekomme ich auch zu Hause oder auf einem Schiff nichts herunter. Der Port Agent und auch die Rezeptionistin hatte uns bestätigt, dass in Brügge keine private Limousinenservices oder Mini-Cars existieren. Die Fahrten werden nach Taximeter abgerechnet. Für Touren kann man Fixpreise vereinbaren. Kurz vor 07:30 Uhr staunten wir nicht schlecht: Leder-VIP-Ausstattung...



It was really an exception that we waked up at 06:00 hrs on a Sunday morning. Bruno got a cup of coffee. I wanted to have breakfast on the ship, and so I broke the rule no. 1 of Belgian hospitality. But without lie: At 07:00 hrs in the morning I am unable to have any kind of food, neither at home nor on a ship. The Port Agent and the receptionist told us that there is no private limousine service or so-called mini-cars available. They charge the rides by the meter. For full day tours, you can negotiate a fixed price. At 07:30 hrs we were nicely surprised: Full leather VIP equipment...

Unfortunately not much too see ARTEMIS in the background. And the meter showed around 48.00 EUR at the port gate.



Leider nur mit einer Lupe zu sehen: die ARTEMIS im Hintergrund. Und der Taximeter bleibt bei knapp 48,00 EUR am Hafentor stehen.

Der Taxifahrer kümmert sich um alles. Wir stehen auf der Liste als mögliche Anreisen drauf. Alles in Ordnung. Nur das Schiff ist nicht freigegeben und unser Fahrer muss bis 08:15 Uhr in Brügge zurück sein. Bevor er unsere Koffer auslädt, damit wir hier warten müssen, kommt die Mitteilung, dass wir zum Pier vorfahren dürfen. Wer das Taxi mal buchen möchte: Taxi Snel.



The driver took care of everything. We were listed as potential embarking guests. Everything is alright. The ship was not finishing the clearance, and our driver needed to be back in Bruges at 08:15 hrs. Before he was able to unload our bags, we got the notification that he could come directly to the pier. Who likes to pre-book the taxi: Taxi Snel

Let's see how she will look like after the change of her sex... (Currently it's the male ARTEMIS. When she will be moved to the German operator Phoenix in 2011 she will become the female ARTANIA).

I never had a chance to take pictures from the pier with her full length.



Leider ist es mir nie gelungen, das Schiff von der Kaiseite aus, mal in seiner ganzen Länge aufzunehmen.

Obwohl Sonntag war: hinter ihr lag noch ein anderes Schiff, so dass der Bereich abgesperrt wurde.



Although it was Sunday: another ship was behind her in full port operation, and this area was closed.

And also in front of her.



... und auch vorne.

So bald ich auch nur einen Meter hinter die Absperrung gegangen bin, gab es schon Drohgebärden.



As I moved one yard behind the fence someone put me into his observations.

In the afternoon we went out to see the situation outside the port area and found on a bridge the possibility to take pictures of her in her full length. But now the sun came from the wrong side.



Nachmittags gehen wir kurz raus, um mal die Situation vor dem Hafen zu erkunden und finden auf einer Brücke eine Möglichkeit sie in voller Länge zu fotografieren. Nur jetzt steht die Sonne auf der falschen Seite.

Besser ging es einfach nicht.



No better possibility.

When we embarked, we saw on the list that six more passengers did not make it yesterday right on time. But only one more made an effort to make it here in Zeebrugge to embark.



Bei der Einschiffung sehen wir die Liste. Noch sechs weitere Passagiere haben es nicht geschafft. Aber nur noch einer davon hat sich die Mühe gemacht, noch in Zeebrügge an Bord zu kommen.

Der Sicherheitsoffizier guckt nicht schlecht, dass wir schon da stehen, bevor die ersten Passagiere von Bord sind.



The security officer was very much surprised that we arrived before the first guests had a chance to leave the ship.

They called an officer who collected our passports, and we got our cruise cards. But they did not let us going onboard before we filled out the health questionnaire. Someone picked up our bags for screening, and they escorted us to our cabin.



Es wird aber ein Offizier gerufen, der uns die Pässe abnimmt und wir bekommen im Gegenzug die Bordkarten. Auf jeden Fall müssen wir aber noch die Gesundheitsbögen ausfüllen, bevor wir an Bord gelassen werden. Unser Gepäck wird uns sofort abgenommen und durchleuchtet und wir werden zur Kabine geleitet.

An Abfertigungsmöglichkeiten für uns gibt es ja sonst nichts: Drei Schilder...



There were not too many handling fascilities but the three signs...

Den Schaum haben wir allerdings in der Form noch nirgendst gesehen.



We never saw this kind of foam in other port before.

Finally, we arrived at our cabin A224 - a Deluxe Balcony Cabin on the A-Deck. We had problems to open the door. It was closed, and an officer needed to come to open it and to hand out the key cards.



Wir erreichen unsere Kabine A224, eine Deluxe-Balkon-Kabine auf dem A-Deck. Probleme gibt es beim Öffnen. Die Tür wurde ja verschlossen und ein Offizier musste herangeholt werden, der die Tür für uns öffnete und uns dann die Schlüsselkarten übergab.

Es werden dieses Mal mehr Detailbilder eingestellt, weil ich schon gespannt bin, was sich nach dem Umbau verändert.

Alles liegt noch unberührt vom Vortag. Unsere Betten für die Nacht wurden nicht gemacht offensichtlich.

Eine US-110-V- und eine britischer 230-V-Steckdose. Mal sehen, was sich ändert.

Bleibt der Fön an der Wand, der allerdings nicht funktionierte...

Die Mini-Bar hielt für uns kostenlos zwei Flaschen Wasser bereit.

Alles weitere musste bezahlt werden.

Schön waren die vielen Schubladen für lange Fahrten.



So many drawers were nice for long journeys.

But we did not need the collection of screws.



Nur die Schraubensammlung musste nicht sein.

Only the safe was something we did not know what to do. You can just use it for things you can place upright and lock with a key...



Ein Safe, mit dem wir nichts anfangen konnten. Nur etwas, was man aufrecht hinstellen kann und einen Schlüssel...

Nachmittags fiel uns auf, dass das Zimmer sehr hellhörig war. Gegenüber war ein Servicegang. Es hörte sich an wie eine Spülmaschine. Diese ging aber anscheinend sehr unregelmäßig und brauchte für eine Industriespülmaschine sehr lange. Als wir die Tür öffneten sahen wir die "Spülmaschine", die lief.



In the afternoon our attention was attracted to the fact that the cabins were very clairaudient. Sounded like a dishwasher. But it sounded very unsteady and need very long for an industrial version of a dishwasher. When we opened the door, we saw the "dishwasher"...

The clac-clac came from the information folder which contents need to be exchanged.



Das Klack-Klack kam von den Ringordnern, die hier wohl neu bestückt wurden.

Abends bekamen wir alles von beiden Nachbarn mit. Jeder Fernseh-Programmwechsel führte dazu, dass wir auch den Fernseher lauter stellen mussten... damit wir noch etwas hören konnten...



In the night you can hear the neighbours from both side. Every change of the TV-Programme made that we need to adjust the volume louder... to make us possible to hear something...

They wanted to stand up for us. But we gave them instructions just not to move for a second. We walked like storks to the elevators, and everybody needed to laugh. That was what we like it.



Die wollten für uns alle aufstehen. Aber wir haben denen das Kommodo gegeben, sich einfach mal einen Moment nicht zu bewegen. Wie Störche sind wir dann zum Fahrstuhl gelangt und alle hatten etwas zu lachen. So magen wir es.

Hoffentlich werden die schönen Holzmöbel mit übergeben. Schade, dass wir nicht mit dem Auto angereist sind...



I really hope that the nice wooden furnitures will be transferred as well to the new ship owner. What a pity that we did not come with the car...

Was allerdings sehr schade ist:

Außen wird leider so gut wie gar nichts mehr gemacht.



Unfortunately you did not have the impression that they did too much maintenance in the outdoor areas.

But so the idea of going on ARTEMIS for the Asia-fare-well tour was destroyed by the appearances outside. But later when you read the public outdoor part.



Und damit schied das Thema Asien-Abschiedsfahrt auf der ARTEMIS aus, da man dort bestimmt sich draußen aufhält. Dazu aber später mehr, wenn es in die öffentlichen Außenbereiche geht.

Wenn noch etwas gemacht wurde, dann eher so halbherzig. Würde ich vermutlich auch so machen, wenn mir das Schiff bald nicht mehr gehört.



If something was done than with half heart passion. I would handle it the same way if I were not any longer the owner soon.

Let's see if Phoenix-Guests will get a Flat-Screen-TV. The quality of information was excellent. We knew later all senior officers with their titles and names and pictures. The cabin programme was much better than counting sheep in the night.



Mal gucken, ob für die Phoenix-Gäste ein Flat-Screen-Gerät spendiert wird. Der Informationsgehalt war sehr gut. Wir kannten später auch alle Offiziere mit Namen und Rang und z. T. mit Bildern. Das Bordprogramm war besser als Schäfchen-Zählen nachts....

Und abends gab es auch noch eine Gute-Nacht-Schokolade. Etwas, was bei vielen anderen gestrichen wurde.



And you get a good-night-chocolate. Little things other lines aready cancelled.
